Find a Great Leader – The number one key to finding a business that you’ll be able to build into a success is to find a great leader.

If someone is one of the top leaders in the company, there’s a reason for it.  They didn’t reach the top just because they are great recruiters.  They reached that position because they have a program in place that works.

People who join them stay in the business because that person can actually show them how to build a business.  Most often, these types of people have a system of some kind in place that just allows you to “plug in” and hit the ground running.

The reason some folks are leery of MLM is that most folks do struggle to ever make a few hundred bucks out of deal.

That’s the honest truth. However, if you’re considering a network marketing opportunity for yourself, do you have to end up in the “failure” boat?

No, but in order to avoid it, there are some things you should know about network marketing.

What is Network Marketing, Pitfall #1: Have you been an employee your entire working life? If so, building a successful MLM downline organization will be extremely difficult for you if you don’t realize going in how different the MINDSET is when you compare living as an employee with living as an entrepreneur.

When it comes to building your business, there won’t be anyone there to tell you when to wake up, when to go to work, how long to work, what tasks and activities to do while you work, etc.

Huh? What’s that mean? Well, as you’re asking what is network marketing and planning to “get in”, you’ve got a nasty enemy lurking just around the corner. You have that part of you that sees all the “bad” in everything, the doubter, the complainer, the pessimist, etc ready to tell you need to quit MLM at the first sign of “trouble”.

“This sucks”
“I spent all that time with that guy and now he quits?”
“I’m not getting paid for the hours I’m putting in”
“My spouse is upset with me for doing this”
“My friends think I’m nuts…maybe I am”
“20 people in a row told me they don’t want to join”
“Workin’ at my job sure is easier than this headache”

Once you let that crap into your mind, you’re gone, buddy. Oh, you might still stick around, but mentally, you’re GONE!

The antidote? Books, audios and major functions. Every quality MLM company has books and audios it recommends you as part of their “system”. You MUST read and listen to POSITIVE stuff EVERY DAY. If you aren’t willing to do this, you aren’t ready to be in business for yourself, plain and simple.

However, if you fill your mind with positive info, it’s AMAZING how your mindset shifts and you’re able to overcome odds like you never thought you were capable of.

Lastly, make sure you go to your company’s major functions (usually held quarterly) because there’s nothing like getting around positive, forward thinking people for a full weekend of masterminding about how great network marketing and freedom is!

What is Network Marketing? Pitfall #3: Unrealistic Time Frame Expectation

I see so many people joining a MLM opportunity and expecting to “get rich” in 3 weeks.

Are you freakin’ kidding me? What is network marketing, indeed…Let’s hit up on some reality here…

How long did elementary school take you to finish? How about high school? College?

It take years to build a successful business in any niche and deciding to build a network marketing organization means you’re deciding to build a BUSINESS. Understand that going in and you’ll be able to weather the tough times and get to the awesome passive income stream times.

Any quality business takes 2-5 years to become successful and profitable. So, think 2-5 years going in. Work it for that time period consistently and you’ll have success.

What is Network Marketing? It’s a BUSINESS

But, it’s a business where you can use the power of leverage to build time freedom into your life eventually.

You can only recruit and sell whatever it is your company sells to a certain number of people each month. Now that we have all that out of the way, let’s get into the specific types of MLM training you can tap into.

First of all, you’ve got what we call OFFLINE training and education. This means you don’t need to know anything at all about the Internet: how to Tweet, how to post the “magic” Facebook post, how to “blog”, how to set up capture pages, how to do PPC, how to operate an autoresponder (a what?!), how to create Youtube videos, etc.

Instead, you’re taught the “old school” approach:

1. Get a Prospect: write a list of the top 100-500 people you know
2. Share the Plan: introduce them to your products/opportunity
3. Get them to a local opportunity meeting or 3 way call with your sponsor
4. Answer questions, overcome objections and close into your business

I used the term “old school” above. You may think that because you’re reading my words online on my blog that I’m going to tell you to avoid “old school” methods at all costs.

Wrong! I’m going to tell you that even in the 21st Century, these techniques and strategies flat out work. This is a relationship business. You must build relationships with people as you work to bring leaders into your organization.

This is the best and easiest way to get your MLM building off to a fast start. Have I recruited folks into my primary opportunity this way. You bet! Do I teach my new people to run with this “method”? You bet!

I’ll say it again: be careful of listening to online marketers who have NEVER built an MLM downline in a real MLM company!

As I’ve explained, there is specific network marketing training that works and there is specific training that doesn’t work well.

The biggest warning I’ll give you is to watch out for network marketing training that leads you into Information Overload, gets you off on tangents that have nothing to do with recruiting people into a network marketing opportunity and ends up burning you out and feeling as though you were taken advantage of by slick marketing experts.

The best place to end up with this result is to play around on the Internet, trying to find out how to build your MLM opportunity “fast, easy and with no work”.

One of the habits I’ve developed over the years is to read daily. I’ve always loved to read, but about two and a half years ago, one of my mentors asked me if I read daily.

I had to honestly answer “no” to that question. I didn’t always pick up a positive book EVERY single day and read at least 5-10 minutes.

He told me I should develop that habit if I ever expected to improve my life and accomplish the goals I had laid out for myself. So, I developed that daily habit.

I highly encourage you to do the same. It’s amazing what you’ll see come from it.

Right now, I’m reading “The Power of Positive Thinking”, by Norman Vincent Peale again. In it, there’s a great chapter called, “Stop Fuming and Fretting”.

I find this chapter fascinating because it starts off with Peale discussing how the modern world is moving so fast and daily life causes too many people to fume and fret, which when he breaks down the definitions of these words, means too many adults are acting like spoiled little children.

Peale discusses how when we become agitated, seethe and distraught (fuming) or act like a “sick child in the night”, with our petulant half-whines or half-cries (fretting), it all has “an irritating, annoying, penetrating quality”.

I think this is fascinating because he wrote this back in 1952. If he thought daily life had become too fast paced then, what would he think about our lives today?!

As we enter a new year, I’d like you to think about your life, its pace and how hard you drive yourself. Peale talks about the effect stress, whining, bitching and complaining has not only on our physical lives, but also our eternal souls.

Be careful of over stimulating yourself with “too much to do”. Consider the stress you’re causing yourself. Consider your long-term health physically, but maybe even more importantly; what are you doing to yourself from a spiritual standpoint?

How far away are you getting from the authentic “YOU”?

And, for what? To run around stressing yourself out and stressing out the loved ones near you?

Maybe in 2012, it’s time to sift out the unnecessary from your life. Maybe it’s time for all for us to relax a bit and dig down deep within and finally figure out what the heck it is that is most important and crucial to our long-term happiness.

Peale calls the new generation he was seeing back in 1952 a “pathetic” one, because if its need to over stimulate itself with “nervous tension, synthetic excitement, and noise”.

As the dad, Frank, on “Everybody Loves Raymond” would say, “Holy CRAP!”…what would Peale think today in the midst of a generation focused so much on the “fake world” of social media, video games, movies, and a general focus of “detachment through entertainment”?

Would he call our society pathetic, or worse, maybe? Are we pathetic?

I think in many ways we are. Too many people today are doing just what Peale started this chapter off with. Too many people are running around bitching, moaning and complaining about everything. They’re so accustomed to seeing what’s wrong with their world that they’re actually uncomfortable being happy.

However, I’m also an eternal optimist. I believe more and more people are seeing the error of our ways. I believe (based on my conversations with many of you who will be reading this) that more people are taking control of their inner mind and are seeing the beauty of life again.

If you’re struggling with any of this, I encourage you to do the same. Slow down just a little. Dig down and think deeply about what you really want out of life. Is it another year of running around like a stressed out child upset because mommy and daddy didn’t provide the latest toy?

Or, do you want to accomplish all your goals and dreams…finally?

Most reading this will be from the “world” of network marketing, affiliate marketing, entrepreneurship, etc. You’re building toward something in your businesses. I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to develop in 2012 the habit of daily reading and daily listening to positive audios.

Do it on a consistent basis. It’s amazing what a 10-minute read will do to your mind. Look what a 10-minute read did for me this morning. It inspired me to sit down and rattle off this post and hopefully that inspiration will rub off on you.

I hope you read these words and become inspired to go out there and make all your dreams come true!

It’s easy to start feeling overwhelmed in your business, isn’t it? Not only do you have eight million things to do with your family and work, but you’re building your network marketing and/or affiliate marketing business and there’s just way too much stuff to do!

First of all, let’s slow our roll a bit, all right partner? There’s no way you’re ever going to get anywhere when you’re in that state of feeling overwhelmed.

So, the first step that’s vitally important here is that you get yourself out of this emotional state.

The first step I want you to take is go have some fun! Yes, you heard me right…turn off your computer and go do what makes you feel best.

Here are some activities to get your brain going…

…which of these activities do you enjoy?

• Play a musical instrument
• Cooking
• Going to the movies
• Walking
• Running
• Gardening
• Singing
• Napping
• Playing with the dog
• Reading your child a story
• Exercising
• Grabbing a Starbucks coffee and relaxing
  Knitting

Whatever it is you enjoy doing and that gets you back to feeling calm and more like yourself is what you need to go do right away when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Most likely, you’re going to fight me on this. We’re taught all our lives that when things gotta get done, they gotta get done, damnit!

Well, I’m here to say that it’s far more powerful when you’re working through your activities to be doing it in a state of enjoyment and productivity. This is a basic part of the Law of Attraction…when you’re doing anything with a bad attitude, feeling of frustration, anger (all things you DON’T want in your life), you’re simply attracting more of the same.

You’ll actually get more accomplished in less time by being in a positive state because you’re attracting more people, situations and circumstances that will help you experience more positive things in your life.

Feeling Overwhelmed: Now That You’re Feeling Better…

Once you’re feeling a little better inside, here’s an actual “how to” technique that I use to work through anything that started out making me feel overwhelmed:

I “chunk” out 5 main activity steps I can do right away that will get me on track to getting my goals accomplished.

Write down the five easiest things you can do that will help you finish all the stuff that started you down that frustrating and overwhelming road. If you’re building your network marketing business, maybe it’s to make a prospecting call schedule, a team meeting schedule, read positive books, etc.

If you’re building your online marketing part of your business, maybe it’s to put that first video together, write a new article for your blog, build a second capture page to split test against the one that doesn’t seem to be producing, etc.

Feeling overwhelmed never lasts if you first get your THINKING straightened out…

Around the holidays, it’s not uncommon to get “email blasts” from folks wishing all their contacts Merry Christmas or Happy New Year.

Unfortunately, many times your email address is listed out in public view, along with every other contact in their list, because they don’t know how to maintain the privacy of everyone as they send out their well wishes.

A Quick Email Etiquette Tip

Fixing this issue is extremely simple. All you need to do when you send a group email is to enter all those emails you’re sending to in the BCC line, rather than the TO field or CC field.

That’s it! Isn’t that easy? And, if you put YOUR email address in the TO field, the message will be sent to you also, so that you can check and make sure that you sent it correctly and have “hidden” all your contacts’ emails from your other contacts.

In the image below, you can see the three different fields that you would see in your email account. Remember, use the BCC field, NOT the TO field or CC field for all those addresses you’re sending to…

See…not too hard, huh?

Now, you’ll never upset any of your contacts ever again when they see that you’ve blasted their personal email address all over the entire World Wide Web!

Now, of course, if you’re a marketer and are building a list for business purposes, then you must invest a few dollars a month in an autoresponder since emailing weekly or monthly to a list of hundreds and eventually thousands of people will get your personal account marked as a spammer…and it’s just plain tacky anyway.
